ISL May Tournaments 2023 - NYAC

When your opponent is at the table it is your obligation to pick out and spot the balls as needed for that player.

  • Don’t stand in the line of their shot
  • Don’t make sudden movements/noises which may be distracting
  • Don’t repeatedly chalk your cue
  • Don’t talk to or distract the referee

AS A PLAYER (OR SPECTATOR) WATCHING:

  • Do not chat or talk within earshot of a table with active players
  • Do not offer shot advice (coaching) during a frame to either player
  • Do not insert yourself or become involved with refereeing decisions/scoring mishaps unless your advice is specifically requested by a referee
  • Do not talk to players at the table during a match, please do not make jokes or quips towards players
  • An active match player may ask a referee to quiet or intervene with any audience member who is loud or distracting
  • The referee and/or tournament directors may at their discretion disqualify any player watching a match who after being warned continues to cause interruptions or distractions to a match

AS A PLAYER:

  • Show your honesty by calling what may be a non-obvious foul on yourself (eg touching a ball with your hand), whether or not the referee or your opponent has seen it.
  • Try not to react to your opponent having the run of the balls whether that be a fluked pot or lucky snooker. We all get luck and it generally evens out. If you knowingly fluke a ball or a snooker, raise your hand to apologize.
  • When your opponent plays a good safety shot and leaves you in difficulty, tap the table to acknowledge or say ‘shot’, but do not make negative remarks or comments toward your opponent.
  • Try and keep your emotions under control, don’t use foul language when you miss a pot and don’t thump the table either! Save any negative comments until after the match is finished.
  • Do not concede a frame when there are still enough points to win without obtaining snookers, or while you opponent is at the table. Wait until it is your turn to offer your concession.
  • If you have decided enough is enough whilst your opponent is at the table, do not make a point of unscrewing your cue or start putting it away, wait until your opponent is finished playing and offer a handshake.
  • Always shake hands with your opponent before and after a frame, and after a league match whatever the result, shake hands with all players who have taken part, whether or not you have played them
  • Remember that the referee’s decision is final

DOUBLES MATCHES:

  • Partners are not allowed to advise each other in doubles competitions.
  • Whoever pots or goes in off the black in the first frame, breaks off the second frame.
  • Once partners have established a sequence of play at commencement of the match, they cannot be changed.
